Iran has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps chief Mohsen Rezai as the new head of the Supreme National Security Council, according to The Times of Israel. Rezai is wanted by Interpol for his alleged involvement in the 1994 AMIA bombing in Argentina that killed 85 people.
Rezai’s appointment follows the death of the previous council chief, Ali Larijani, in March. Argentina has sought Rezai’s extradition for the alleged role he played in the attack on the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. The Times of Israel reports that Iran has formally named Rezai, making him the second person to lead the council since Larijani’s passing.
