WHAT HAPPENED

A giant, 30-foot replica of a Hoosier cabinet has been unveiled in Nappanee, Indiana, to celebrate the cabinet's place in kitchen history, according to Associated Press. The replica, dubbed the world's largest Hoosier cabinet, was built as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of Coppes Napanee, one of the original manufacturers of the popular Hoosier cabinets. The cabinet is equipped with stairs leading to a loft that visitors can look out from, overlooking Coppes Commons.

The replica is a model of a Dutch Kitchenette and was opened to the public last month, featuring a climbable design that allows visitors to explore its interior. Wesley Mast, owner and president of Coppes Napanee, was present at the unveiling, which took place against a brick background. The original Coppes Napanee factory has been converted to an indoor marketplace, artisan hub, and museum, now known as Coppes Commons.

Hoosier cabinets were once a mainstay in early 20th-century American homes, but have long since fallen out of fashion, making this replica a nostalgic celebration of kitchen history. The cabinet's name was coined after its largest producer, the Hoosier Manufacturing Co.
