The Federal Reserve Board approved the application of Banco Santander, S.A. and its U.S. subsidiary, Santander Holdings USA, Inc., allowing the Spanish banking group to continue or expand its operations within the United States.
According to the FRB press release, the approval is part of the Board’s routine oversight of foreign banking institutions operating in the U.S. The same source also noted that the Board had recently approved applications for Coastal Bend BancShares, Inc. and FS Bancorp, Inc., underscoring a broader pattern of regulatory approvals for a variety of banking entities.
These approvals are a routine exercise of the Federal Reserve Board’s authority to oversee the safety and soundness of banks that maintain significant U.S. operations, ensuring they meet U.S. regulatory standards.
