According to France 24 – International Breaking, the French military deployed a military plane to assist firefighting operations as wildfires spread toward the Bordeaux region on the evening of the report.
The deployment followed escalating fire activity in both France and Spain. Al Jazeera reports that wildfires forced the evacuation of more than 200,000 people, while the BBC noted that firefighters were battling the flames and that thousands more were evacuated near Bordeaux. A separate BBC piece confirmed that over 220,000 people had been evacuated across France and Spain.
The fires are part of a larger pattern of intense summer wildfires in southwestern Europe, posing significant threats to communities, infrastructure and natural habitats.
