Turkey’s parliament recently passed a law to reintegrate a subset of PKK militants, a historic step toward ending a conflict that has plagued the country for more than four decades.
According to Deutsche Welle, the new law outlines how selected militants can return to civilian life. France 24 reports it is a limited amnesty for Kurdish PKK militants, while noting the legislation does not address the future of imprisoned leader Abdullah Ocalan.
The PKK‑Turkish state conflict began in the 1980s and has resulted in thousands of deaths; this move could help reduce violence, though Ocalan remains in prison.
